Yellowstone Season 6: Costner’s Fate, New Cast, and What’s Next

Costner and Sheridan Feud Over John Dutton’s Fate

Kevin Costner, who plays John Dutton on Yellowstone, is reportedly in a feud with show creator Taylor Sheridan over how to write out John Dutton in season 6. Costner wants more control over his character’s exit, while Sheridan likely has other plans. This behind-the-scenes drama has delayed production on the new season.

No New Episodes in Almost a Year

Despite having a massive and loyal fanbase, there have been no new episodes of Yellowstone since January 2022. However, repeats of the show continue to pull in big ratings, demonstrating the power of the Yellowstone fandom.

Reasons for the Long Hiatus

In addition to the Costner-Sheridan feud, other factors contributing to the nearly year-long break include industry strikes, Costner’s divorce settlement, his plans to work on his own western film, and Sheridan’s many other new shows in the works.

How Will Season 5’s Cliffhanger Play Out?

The season 5 finale ended on a major cliffhanger, teasing the potential end of the Dutton family’s reign. John Dutton is now governor, but what will happen after his term? And what is next for the Yellowstone ranch after John? Fans are eager to find out.

Potential for New Cast Members

With uncertainty around Costner’s role going forward, there is potential for new cast members to join the show in season 6. However, the Dutton family drama remains the heart of Yellowstone, so any new characters would likely be in a supporting role.

  1. Have John Dutton in an accident. One that needs major facial reconstruction. Then bring Josh Lucas in to play the John Dutton role. That way we can keep the show going.

  2. No, do not do the face reconstruction thing. Ridiculous. Not acceptable to us. Have Beth take the lead. She would know better how to carry the show farther. Get rid of Jamie. Have Jamie shoot his father accidentally when he is trying to shoot Beth while he is super drunk.

  4. There is no Yellowstone without Kevin Coster. Never have seen such grear acting since Charlton Heston in Ben Hur. Even his facial expressions are so believable. Besides the fact that he is good eye candy

  6. Without Kevin Costner, there is no Yellowstone. He has played his part and all of the characters say it the only new characters in there need to be the the family children which right now is only one son if you replace his daughter and sons, there will be no Yellowstone the rating will go down OK

  7. No Costner no Yellowstone.
I think most of the people in good old Hollywood that make so much money compared to the average check to check fan they have forgotten what it’s like to sit back and wait for the millionaires to figure out how to spend money.

  8. The show can go on without Costner. Put Beth in charge. He’s not God. Love the show. But I’m getting tired of waiting for the show to go on.

  9. One of the ways my wife & I got thru Covid by anxiously awaiting to watch each week’s episode of Yellowstone. Costner was the lead actor who led the cast for 5+ years. But the other family members played important roles in making the show a success! I hate to see Costner leave, BUT the other family members have created their own storyline for the show to continue! Take John Dutton to the “train station” & keep on cowboying!

    • If John has to go, I entertain the idea that Jamie accidentally kills him in an attempt to kill Beth. Or the plane crash idea mentioned above works. But no “train station”. He needs to be properly buried in the family cemetery on the family property .

  10. Let’s just get something going, this wait is ridiculous. It’s not Costner’s show so let’s go Sheridan, it’s up to you.

  11. I think they’re right without Kevin Costner I don’t think the show will be the same without his role so honestly I would just get someone else to play John Dutton eventually the audience would be okay with it that’s how good the show is but of course no one can replace Kevin Costner but they are other actors who are suitable yes Josh Lucas it would be nice if Kevin could play it out till the end even if he had to be less around because of his other projects he could at least finish it but I would seriously and I’m not a writer or a producer but I would not get rid of his character I just don’t think it would be a wise move I only speak for myself I would rather have the character with a different face than not have the character at all because his role is the Foundation of the movie
