Yellowstone: Most Heartbreaking Character Deaths, Ranked

John Dutton IV – Tragic Loss for Young Family

The death of John Dutton IV was especially painful because Monica had only gotten to celebrate the new life for an hour before Kayce had to break the news. Young Tate was also forced to quickly name the baby brother he just met. This tragedy occurred early in season 1, setting the tone for the show’s emotional stakes.

Lee Dutton – Only One Who Got Along With All

Lee Dutton seems to be the only Dutton that genuinely got along with everybody and didn’t care about sibling rivalry or family squabbles. His sudden passing in season 3 was a big loss for the family dynamic.

Evelyn Dutton – Major Impact on Family

Although only shown in flashbacks, Evelyn was John Dutton’s wife and Beth’s mother. Her death by horse riding accident had one of the greatest impacts on the Dutton family makeup today.

Sarah Nguyen – Caught in Family Crossfire

Sarah Nguyen was the journalist Jaime told the Dutton family secrets to in order to defeat his father during the elections. Her brutal murder demonstrated the collateral damage of the Duttons’ morally gray methods.

Robert Long – Shocks Viewers

Robert Long’s graphic death by bomb explosion was a shocking moment for viewers that raised the stakes early in season 1.

The deaths of Garett Randall, Roarke Morris, and Dirk Hurdstrom also had significant impacts on the show’s storylines and high emotional stakes.

  1. This show should never be canceled. It is such a good show. I have turned so many people owned to this show. From the very beginning, I’ll do it to everything. The other best show was sons of anarchy now this.

  2. Just don’t understand why the show can’t continue with everyone else. Rip, Beth, Kaycee and Jamie and of course the bunkhouse. Just because Kevin Costner doesn’t want to continue ( unfortunately) the show could still go on.

  4. I really enjoy Yellowstone too and the spin-off series that have came from the series. My only complaint is the greed that came with the series. They have such an amazing cast and storyline that everyone became obsessed with it from the very beginning, at least most people I know did. Then after they have all of us wanting more, they start switching networks on all of us. We have to buy more channels if we don’t already have it, which most if us were willing to do ( whether we could afford it or not). Then another season, another network. Well, I do love the show but I don’t have the money to continue watching. I will have to rely on the internet for my updates. On a fixed income you have to make choices based on medical, food, gas or watching Yellowstone. I enjoy popcorn while I’m watching tv
